Estimate of the total cost you are likely to incur
Below outlined is a rough estimate of the total cost you are likely to incur from the preparation stage to the return home. The assumption made in this scenario is a 2-week program to teach English, Math or any other volunteer-teaching option on our list of volunteering programs.
- Flight to and from Ghana: US$800-1250 (Round-trip)
- Ghana visa: US$50-150
- Vaccinations: US$100-250
- Miscellaneous personal items: US$300-900
- Personal Spending money whilst in Ghana: US$200 upwards
- VIGS-GHANA Program fee: starts at US$150
So, a rough estimate of the total cost for a two-week program duration would be about US$1,650 - 3,050. Check the equivalent in your currency.

The health-care and orphanage programs cost more because the placements are all located several hundreds of kilometers from our base in Accra. The extra cost is thus a result of higher transportation and supervision expenses.
You may notice that VIGS-GHANA's program fees are among the lowest (if not the lowest) you can find for these kinds of programs in Africa. This is so because we are a fully locally-based and administered organization. Our administrative (overhead) costs are much, much lower than those of organizations administered from overseas. Because we have much lower administrative costs, we are able to charge such low fees — and yet deliver a quality of volunteering experience similar to what you would get for much costlier programs, or even better: do check out our past volunteers' testimonials and videos pages
